Local music: Jose’s Mexican Grill

There is a new host in Plymouth for local music, and it’s Jose’s Mexican Grill.

Students who find themselves downtown on a Tuesday night with nothing to do should think about stopping in and checking out Jose’s. Remember where Jigger Johnson’s used to be? Well, just walk in the door and head down the stairs.

Tuesday nights bring music ranging from open mics with local guitarists and vocalists to popular local bands playing on two opposing stages.

“We rotate between two bands, each playing a set at a time so that there is constant live music,” said Jose, the owner of the restaurant.

Jose’s sees a good number of people on Tuesday nights. People go with their instruments and just sign up when they get there, bringing to the table African drums, twelve string guitars, blues, rock and roll, and much more.

“It’s really great that anyone in town with any kind of talent can expose it at a bar like Jose’s. It’s a great place to gather; you can have a few beers, see your friends and bare your soul,” said Maribeth Sullivan, a senior at Plymouth State University.

Jose’s also does take-out. students should be aware that they aren’t just limited to Chinese food and pizza. Mexican take-out runs between 5 P.M. and 10 P.M.
