Plymouth,NH- The Plymouth State Panthers were able to capitalize and win their first game of the 2013 season against Salem State Wednesday, September 11th, by the score of 5 to 3. Unfortunately, they failed to capture a second victory on Saturday, September 14th, and fell to Castleton by a score of 4 to 2. This Gives PSU an overall record of 1-2.
September 11– Wednesday looked good for the Panthers, who were coming off that shutout loss against Bridgewater State on September 8th. The first half was all Panthers, with PSU scoring three times in the first half to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Christian Bua (Gilford, NH) was the first to score on long strike from the left side of the field, and Alex Herbert (Lexington, Mass.) would then score the two of his own.
It got interesting in the second half with PSU scoring its fourth goal by Alex Estupinan (New York, N.Y.). A shutout was in sight for the Panthers up until Salem State was able to score Back-to-back goals, but Plymouth would capitalize once again scoring their fifth goal by Danny Marsh(Farmington, CT) making the score 5-2. The final score was 5-3 with PSU’s goal tender (Sam Whipple [Kingston, N.H.]) saving eight shots on ten attempts on goal.
September 14–Saturday was a different story for the Panthers as they attempted to win two games in a row. Plymouth State faced Castleton, in their home opener this past weekend where they lost in a non-Conference game 4-2. Castleton’s Blake Hart was able to take an early 1-0 lead four minutes into the game, Castleton tacked on two more goals to go into the half with a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Panthers came out firing with Jacob Sjoberg (Linkoping, Sweden) scoring in the first minute of the second half to cut Castleton’s lead to 2. Castleton was able to add some insurance with a goal in the 52nd minute to go up 4-1. Graham Hughes scored in the 75th minute but it was too little too late for the Plymouth State Panthers.
PSU looks to get back on track this week on the road as they visit Daniel Webster 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, and will face in-state and conference rival Keene State this Saturday down in Keene.
