New website introduced to campus

Out with the old, in with the new. On Sunday, Information Technologist, Ken Kochien from ITS went in front of Student Senate to show a preview of the new version of PSU’s myPlymouth website, which will be introduced shortly after the end of the semester.

The change will be made on May 27, shutting down the old myplymouth and introducing the new version on May 29 or 30. The new version is a cleaner model than the current one. It is less text heavy, and combines the student life and student services tabs into one.

Included in the new updates is the PSU Sidebar, a tool unique to Plymouth alone.

Another new aspect will be the PSU “weather channel.” It will still include the pictures from the web cam like the old website, but will also provide a five-day weather forecast and weather maps from Plymouth’s Meteorology program.

An “Activity Channel” will also be included, which works in the same way as the Facebook news-feed and updates members of myPlymouth groups when new information or posts have been added to the group page.

Links to websites will be added to the myPlymouth homepage as well, like experience.com and meteor.com to provide help with job searches. The alumni site will also be updated, helping to keep the former students more involved in the Plymouth community.

“I think its Plymouth State University catching up with the times,” said Ezra Xavier Dalton, Sophomore Class Representative and one of the senators that sat in on the presentation.

“I think it’s so clean and fresh,” said First-Year Representative Aly Dethlefs. “It’s not so jumbled and cluttered. I feel like I can breathe when I look at it.”
