Music of ‘Raining Jane’ warms Fireplace Lounge

On April 16, the all-girl band wowed the audience with their attitude, music and looks. There was playful banter between them and the listeners, sending cheers and laughter resonating throughout the building.

Raining Jane’s members include Mai Bloomfield on vocals, guitar and cello, Becky Gebhardt on bass, guitar and sitar, Chaska Potter on vocals and guitar, and Mona Tavakoli on drum kit, cajon and vocals.

The girls played many original songs on topics ranging from finding love on the Internet to an improvised song called “Plymouth State You Melt My Heart.” They also covered a few classics like Tom Petty’s “Last Dance with Mary Jane,” and The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star.”

The highly demanded encore pleased the audience with an acoustic version of Bob Marley’s “Turn Your Lights Down Low.” After the show ended, the band members stayed and talked about music and life in general with many of the audience members.

The concert received an overwhelmingly positive response. “They had great stage presence and they were all hot. They can come back to Plymouth State anytime,” said first-year John Toussaint. “It’s so nice to hear something so positive after the news today,” agreed senior Marykate Cunningham.

Raining Jane has several shows coming up all over New England for those who missed this concert or want to see them again.

The group’s album “Diamond Lane” is also available for purchase on iTunes. Tour details and much more can be found on their MySpace page or the band’s website: Rainingjane.com.
