Meet Molly Blaine

What is a typical game day like for you?

While game day is always a time to focus, our team tries not to get too serious before games. We sometimes have players sing or play silly games before we get into the rink. Once we are in the rink, many people listen to music to get them pumped up for the game. It’s really a matter of what it takes to get the individual player in the right mindset to play their best.

What’s the best part of being a part of the Plymouth hockey team?

The best part of being on the Plymouth hockey team is my teammates. We often refer to ourselves as a family; everyone is really close to one another.

You’ve been out with an injury. Are you back on the ice, or still healing? While you were off the ice, how did you continue to contribute to the team?

After two knee surgeries this summer, it has been a long road of recovering to get me back on the ice. I am practicing with the team on the ice, and working to get my leg strength and game back to where it was prior to the injury so that I am able to be a positive contributor. I am looking to get back in the lineup by January.

You’ve got a new coach this season. How has Coach Kilstein’s youth and experience come to benefit the team and/or you as an individual?

Despite being a young coach, Coach Kilstein knows a great deal about hockey, which will help us grow and develop as individual players along with as a team. She is also able to relate to each of the players really well, understanding the pressure and struggles that come with being a student athlete along with prior seasons.

What are your post-graduation plans? Will you continue to play hockey? Would you consider coaching?

My plans after graduation are to continue on to grad school. While there are not really any opportunities for females to play hockey after college competitively, I see myself always finding a league or pick up team to play with. Perhaps not right of college, but someday I would love to coach younger kids.
