Meet Abby Van Wormer

The last few seasons for PSU women’s ice hockey have been pretty rough. What goals have you set as a team this season to improve?

Goals we have set this season have included being a disciplined and a hard working team. We are taking this program in the right direction. Every single player, coach, manager, and trainer has the desire to win. Everything we do is to become a better team on and off the ice. We improve every time we are together.

After starting the season with two away games, how does it feel to be playing back on home ice?

Home games in sports are so important. As a team we are used to our rink surface. This season we have so much support from people, playing on home ice gives us a strong sense of pride for this school. From getting to the rink without the bus ride to getting dressed in our own locker room, listening to our warm up music on the ice, all the way to having our fans and community there while we play. It all makes a positive impact on us for the game.

What match-up are you looking forward to the most?

Every match-up is an opportunity for us. Our rival is anyone lining up across from us at the drop of the puck.

What are you most looking forward to as you begin your final season at PSU?

I am looking forward to seeing the success of the team and this program. We are working so hard and have been improving tremendously since day one. I am already having so much fun and the team is a great group. I am looking forward to playing great hockey with a great team and capturing success for Plymouth State Women’s ice Hockey.

What are your post graduation plans? Will you continue to play hockey? Would you consider coaching?

As a senior, I am sad to know this is my last year, but also excited that the positive changes in the program are happening while we are still here. The group of seniors we have now are so close and we are enjoying playing with the team this year. Hockey has always been a huge part of our lives, and I will continue to play after graduation. Being a captain on a team gives us the chance to lead, and it’s definitely something we can take into coaching.

I have always considered coaching after college and look forward to opportunities I will have.
