It’s that time of year again. As spastic as the weather has been since returning from break, this past week has proved that spring is finally here. Earth Jam kicked off its sixth year of yet again a fun energy efficient event. On Sat., Apr. 27th PSU hosted its annual Earth Jam concert on the Alumni Green in front of the HUB and throughout the day, it was easily the place to be. No one could have asked for a better day as they gathered under the blue sky to hear the bands perform.
Thirteen bands preformed at the event, every one tore up the stage using solar energy and local vendors sold all sorts of eco-friendly goods! Other fun-filled activities included tie dying and hula hooping.
There was a constant crowd throughout the day and it seemed like the majority of the people who were just passing through couldn’t help but stay and listen for a few minutes.
It was one of those events where it was almost impossible to walk though and not see someone you knew or have your name called out across a crowd. First year student Christina Behr said, “I kept running into people I haven’t seen in a while. It was really nice to just catch up with them and break my every day routine.”
As much as the music draws people in, it was PACE’s tie-dye booth that received the most attention. In celebration of Earth Jam, the t-shirts had an “I heart trees” design on the front and of course PACE’s logo and the name of the event on the back.
PACE outdid themselves on this one with all the shirts pre-tied into various designs from the classic spiral to stripes, they even included a set of directions on how to properly wash your shirt so you don’t ruin it or your other clothes in the washing machine. “Everybody enjoys tie-dying so it’s a great way to bring the students together. I love the shirt that I made and I can’t wait to rock it around campus!” said junior Shannon McKane.
Once again, Earth Jam was a perfect way to spend a beautiful day celebrating the planet. PSU prides itself on being a “green school” as well as a tightly knit community and Earth Jam definitely let that side show. It was a good turnout, and stood for a good cause. Junior Ali Cremonini said “I think it had a great turnout and is a beg step forward for PSU as a whole in recognizing the interests of the majority of our student body.”
So in case you missed out, don’t worry, Earth Jam will be here again before we know it around this time next year. Until then, get outside and enjoy the amazing weather while it’s here.
