Congrats to Urinetown performers

Dear Editor,

Kudos to all those who gave us Urinetown the Musical. With my husband and a neighbor I watched it Wednesday night. We laughed at those laugh-places and we thought at those thought-places. The program reminds us that “Thomas Robert Malthus, a 19th century political economist, wrote that unchecked population will exceed the means of subsistence….that poverty and famine were natural outcomes of population growth….” More than this, one the program. But anyone who’s seen (and all should) Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth saw that incredible (on the chart) population bulge we live in now. Far-fetched as it may seem that a lower class of people would have to pay to urinate or be killed, we have water problems on the horizon, drought problems, climate problems. The musical reminds us to be human in our solutions.

Sincerely,

Lynn Rudmin Chong
