Psi Beta Gamma apologizes for confusion

Dear Student Body,

On Sunday, April 22, we, the sisters of Psi Beta Gamma regained our recognition as a sorority on the Plymouth State campus. We lost our recognition in 1999 due to hazing, providing alcohol to minors, providing an environment where minors could consume alcohol, and underground pledging. However, the new members of Psi Beta Gamma are a completely new group of sorority sisters who would like to make up for the mistakes of our alumnae and follow in the footsteps of our founding sisters, who created a local sorority based around community service.

When we were going through the process of re-recognition, we were unaware of the reasons in which we lost our recognition in the first place. It was our mistake for not requesting this information; however individuals who did know this information throughout the process still approved us to proceed. If we had known the true reasons of why we had lost our recognition, we would have shared them with the judicial committee, the Student Senate, and The Clock. We were also prepared to address the controversial issues surrounding Greek life at the Student Senate meeting, but no one posed the subject.

Psi Beta Gamma never meant to seem dishonest or manipulative. This was simply a case of miscommunication between parties and unfortunately, it dealt with an issue that might have changed our recognition process. It is important to remember that none of the present sisters were involved with the loss of our recognition in 1999, in fact most of us were in middle school and college was the furthest thing from our minds. Since then, Plymouth State has made many changes to every aspect of campus life and the students who graduate from here are of a different caliber than those of 1999. The sisters of Psi Beta Gamma in 2007 are involved in many student organizations and are required to perform at least ten hours of community service a semester. We also have spent our entire spring semester raising money for an insurance plan so that we could resolve our issues with the campus to regain our recognition and pride on campus.

Thank you,

The sisters of Psi Beta Gamma
