The Art of Cuddling

It’s getting cold out, and whether or not someone’s a fan of the Jack Frost nipping at your nose weather they’re bound to be looking for ways to stay warm.

More conventional methods could be employed, like warming up next to a fire, sipping on hot cocoa, finding a big fluffy blanket, putting on comfy pajamas, or curling up to a good movie with a hot bowl of soup. These are all, but it’s always better to cuddle up with another warm body.

But what makes snuggling, snuggling? And is it snuggling, or is it cuddling? What about spooning; a form of cuddling? More so, what draws one person to another person, and what qualifies them as cuddly?

Someone can cuddle up with a person, but it’s only cuddling if he or she is awake, it’s snuggling once he or she dozes off. So cuddling can always lead to snuggling. If one’s sights are set on spooning then they need to make sure that they’re butt to gut. Once again this is something that starts out as cuddling, but can also lead to snuggling.

Student Vanessa Anair explains that, “You have to be comfortable with them, knowing that they actually want to cuddle and not get down your pants,” is a deciding factor in whether or not to cuddle with this person.

As for the specifics, student Jamie Nugent says, “They need to have nice hair, and kiss you on the forehead, that’s so cute.”

Either way, the act of cuddling/snuggling is about as good as “pet therapy.” When one’s legs are intertwined, it’s a safe, relaxing feeling that can only be established via the interpersonal contact of snuggling.

Senior Marc Rolleri agrees that “Personally I like to be cuddled by a man who makes me feel comfortable and safe. All the problems in the world seem to disappear; you can take a deep breath and release every tension because you know there is someone there.”

To enhance that comfortable, safe feeling, two people can lie belly to belly with one’s chin resting on the other’s head and arms wrapped around one another. This is a great way to lie and talk to each other and feel the other’s heart beating.

A cuddly person can hit the blankets early morning or late evening; when he or she is less likely to fall asleep. Noon or bedtime is the best time to snuggle. Everyone knows how good it feels to wake up after a nap, but to wake up after a nap next to another person rubbing your tummy is amazing.
