Softball Sweeps Double-Header

The Plymouth State softball team defeated the University of Southern Maine, 4-3 and 11-2, Mon. afternoon in a Little East Conference match-up. The two wins extended PSU’s winning streak to six games and improved their record to 13-9, overall. Junior Whitney Roberts (Chocorua, NH) pitched the two games, back-to-back, earning her eighth and ninth wins of the season.

Senior, Bekah Jackson (Nashua, NH), belted a three-run homerun in the first of the two games, driving in freshman, Nadia Wasuta (Jefferson, NH) and senior, Taylor Mancini (Gansevoort, NY) to give the Panthers a 4-3 lead. Wasuta reached base on a single to left field. Mancini struck out, but reached first base on a passed ball.

The Lady Panthers took the lead in the second game during the seventh inning, scoring eight runs to win 11-2. Plymouth had seventeen hits in the second game, nine of which came in the seventh. Sophomore Nicole Abreu (Hudson, NH) and junior Cynthia Barata (New Fairfield, CT) had three hits and two RBIs each.
