It is that time again! The rush of the cold mountain air and the changing of the leaves are ways that tell us the seasons are changing. According to National Geographic News, “In the Northern Hemisphere fall officially began at 5:19 a.m. ET on Tuesday, September 22, 2009-the autumnal equinox, or fall equinox.”
This time of year may extinguish our favorite summertime activities, but it also opens a new door for fall fun. N.H. has a wide selection of fall fairs such as the Sandwich Fair and the Hopkinton Fair which are my personal favorites. There’s something about cool autumn air and freshly greased fried dough that makes my head spin. The combination equals perfection. Another great fall activity is apple picking which is in its peak season right now and goes into mid-October. Did you know that there are over 7,500 varieties of apples grown throughout the world? Now is the time to get out there and pick some of the many different varieties offered at local apple orchards.
From there you have many options. You can eat them just as they are, or use them cooking in such recipes as Apple Crisp, Apple Muffins or even Apple Walnut Cake! Apple Hill Farm and Ross View Farm are both orchards located in Concord that provide a wide variety of different apples, as well as tons of different berries in different seasons. Next, you could take a ride up north to the Kancamangus. Sure, this may be a popular spot among college kids in the summer months but it can be just as fun, if not more during this season. The ride up there is gorgeous with plenty of spots on the way to stop off at and check out the scenic views. The twists and turns and hair pin curves will have you on the edge of your seat right up to the falls. Also along the way you will run into quite a few good hiking spots too that will be irresistible to check out. If you are type of the person who prefers to spend more time indoors, then why not take a ride down to the outlets at exit 20? The Tanger Outlets aren’t like your traditional shopping mall as they are located in a strip mall. There are plenty of fall savings to take advantage of here and something for everyone. While you’re down there go over to Starbucks and grab yourself a Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino to get you in the full fall spirit. Plymouth can feel a bit dry at times, but there is actually plenty to do around here if you know where to look. Go check out some good ol’ N.H. foliage this fall season, and don’t forget to grab a bite to eat up at GH pizza in Lincoln.
