Former AMC President Andrew Falender to Speak at Commencement

On Sat., May 19, Plymouth State University will not only hold its 141st Commencement ceremony, but will also see its first students graduate under the Doctor of Education program. Former AMC President Andrew Falender was chosen as this year’s Commencement speaker by the Honorary Degrees and Awards Committee, headed by Tim Kershner.

Falender graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in economics, and received an MBA from Harvard University. But, he says, he received more experience and knowledge while working in the Peace Corps for two years.

He was president of the AMC for about 23 years, during which he increased membership, increased volunteer programs, and modernized dozens of AMC buildings while allowing more people to have a better appreciation for the outdoors.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have been able to make an impact in several areas that are important to me. I plan to encourage the graduates to do the same.”
