Wednesday – Organic Farm a New Hampshire Tradition

On Wednesday, April 20, D’Acres Organic Farm and Educational Homestead will be teaching an educational and interactive workshop on permaculture design and no-till gardening. D’Acres, which stands for Development Aimed at Creating Rural Ecological Society, was founded in 1997 with the goal of researching, applying, and teaching “skills of sustainable living and small-scale organic farming,” according to the official website. Its name pays homage to two people who moved to Dorchester, NH in 1948, known as Aunt Edith and Uncle Delbert. Aunt Edith and Uncle Delbert “provided a tradition of living and working with the land.” Aunt Edith taught early American decorative painting, while Uncle Delbert worked in blacksmithing, woodworking, animal husbandry, and hunting for food. The aim of D’Acres is to “combine the benefits of tradition and technology to improve the health of the planet and its inhabitants.” Today, D’acres supports Beiderman’s Deli, Baker Valley Floors, Chase St. Market, Styleworks, and Plymouth Bagels, just to name a few.
