Support for Series Speaker Richard Heinburg

Dear Editor,

I would like to make people in the campus community aware of an important upcoming event. Richard Heinberg is speaking at PSU as part of the Sidore Lecture Series on April 12th at 7:00pm at the Heritage Commons across from Lamson Library. The event is free. According to Richard Heinberg, author of Powerdown, “The world is about to plunge into a new era of dwindling fossil fuels, and no one is prepared.” Heinberg has been specifically invited to our community to bring our attention to the fact that our world’s oil supply is in decline and we need to make a shift concerning our energy consumption and production.

Heinberg’s writings and research on peak oil and energy sustainability is the impetus behind the formation of the Plymouth Area Renewable Energy Initiative (PAREI). The Plymouth Initiative, formed last year as a non-profit organization, to help individuals and businesses in our community begin to prepare for an uncertain energy future. The mission of the Initiative is to urge people to get informed about energy issues, renewable energy options and to start thinking about planning for their energy future as they would their financial future. To learn more about PAREI, attend the Heinberg event on April 12th, attend a new members information session on April 15th at 6:30pm in Lamson Library, Room 124 or visit the PAREI information table on campus during Earth Day celebrations on April 22nd.
