“And Kratos cast himself from the highest mountain in all of Greece. After ten years of suffering, ten years of endless nightmares it would finally come to an end. Death would be his escape from madness.”With these words a journey will begin. A journey three years in the making. SCEA is well known for bringing us the Crash Bandicoot series as well as The Grand Turismo series and now, God of War. This game is a stunning display of CGI’s, breathing taking graphics and a moving storyline. A must have for any gamer looking for a great time. The time setting alone is unique, taking place in ancient Greece. Here we follow the story of a young Spartan named Kratos, who is betrayed by the god of war, Ares and becomes destined to be the first mortal to murder a god. There is no question why the game took so long to come out. The creators of God of War did an awesome job of bringing us a world that has been lost for years through amazing detail and design. They bring us to the Aegean Sea to battle the legendary Hydra, to the astonishing monument of Pandora’s Temple, and to the bottomless depths of Hades. Bright color’s where used in areas like Pandora’s temple and the Desert of Lost Souls. Opening up these areas was a major goal for the creators because they wanted the gamers to feel that these were unique and mythical places that they can explore and also enjoy the scenery. Is Kratos a man or beast? He is a character who falls on neither side of the scale. He wasn’t the underdog, or the chosen hero. Kratos is a man described by game director David Jaffe, as “Very brutal, very nasty, and violent”. This fits in the story of the character, who is a man who used to crave for battle and the rush of trampling his enemies. SCEA did a great job at creating this character. Kratos is an awesome character to play because it allows players to unleash the rage and evil they may contain. Of course, having the game take place under these particular settings means you aren’t just up against normal men. Ares legionnaire of the undead will stand in Kratos path. Beware , they are not alone and familiar mythical creatures will also attempt to end Kratos’s journey. Such as ruthless Minotaurs, savage Cyclopes, the queen of the Gorgons, Medusa, and an onslaught of other mythical monsters. As for the game play of God of War, it is very user friendly. It isn’t a hard game to play. It was made so that anyone could pick it up, take to it and enjoy. The game is rated mature and is definately not for the younger crowd. God of War contains intense violence along with other adult themes. To help bring out the savage animal in Kratos, a small but yet powerful arsenal is laid out for your quest. Magical powers have been gifted onto Kratos by the gods as well as the deadly Blades of Chaos, forged in the depths of Hades passed on to Kratos from Ares. Kratos also wields incredible strength which he can ravage his enemies with. For example, tearing them completely in half.Over all, God of War is a must have game. There are many treats to unlock in the game, giving it lots of replay value, if not just for the pure enjoyment of unleashing an animalistic rage on the enemies that stand in your way.
