Plymouth hoops fall short to Eastern Connecticut

PLYMOUTH – The Plymouth State University women’s basketball team suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Eastern Connecticut State University 74-35 Saturday afternoon at Foley Gymnasium in the Little East Conference opener for both schools.

Junior, Ashley McFetridge’s 13-point and 10-rebound double double led Eastern Connecticut to their dominant victory. McFetridge finished 6-of-10 from the field, while Eastern Connecticut received two points and six rebounds from senior, Bridget Durette. First-year, Jessica Moriarty also chipped in with 11 points in the Warrior’s victory.

Plymouth State’s shooting struggled for much of the game, only sinking 18 percent of their shots. Junior, Kayla Morin and first-year, Alex Marcell, led Plymouth with six points apiece. Senior, Lauren Daniels, grabbed 12 rebounds capping her second straight double-digit rebounding performance and third of the season.

Eastern Connecticut scored nine points early and kept it going, leading by double-digit numbers midway through the first half. The Warriors pulled a 29-point margin into the half. Plymouth State was unable to post a challenge to the Warriors who continued to pull away in the second half.

Eastern Connecticut shot 46.6 percent-27-of-58-, using every player from their bench in the effort.

Plymouth State, 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the LEC, hosted Wheaton College Thursday, Dec. 6 and will travel to Western Connecticut State University on Saturday, Dec. 8. Eastern Connecticut remains unbeaten, 6-0-0, 1-0, and will host University of Massachusetts at Boston on Saturday.
