Springtime means election time for PSU’s Student Government Association. This year, debates and a new voting system. Two candidates, Former Pemi Hall Representative Andrew Lewensohn and Former representative Allison Blais vied for the position of student body vice president. Former Senate Historian Curtis Roddy acted as moderator for the debate. While the two candidates officially ran for the office of Student Body Vice President, only Lewensohn had a spot on the ticket. Blais opted to run as a write in candidate.”I am a write in for this election, I feel that if people know my name, they know a little bit more about me than just checking a box,” Blais said.Blais did not completely disregard the validity of petitioning for a place on the ballot. “I think that by people going out there are getting 200 signatures, that’s great and that’s awesome, and you definitely took the initiative,” Blais said. Both Vice Presidential candidates agreed on most of the issues. Andrew Lewensohn ended up winning the position. Former senator Lewensohn has made a name for himself within in senate over the past few months with the vandalism taskforce. “I started the vandalism taskforce. We studied vandalism inside residence halls and surveyed students,” Lewensohn said.
Time management was a key issue when it came to this year’s election. “I believe that I would have enough time, I am going to be integrated into Residential life, and with all the opportunities I’ve had this year, I think I can put forth the effort, and I really think being Student Body Vice President would be worth the effort,” Blais said.
Current USSB representative Gene Martin ran unopposed for the position of Student Body Trustee, as did current student body vice president Aly Dethlefs for the position of student body president.
