Record breaking diva

Billboard recently announced that International recording artist Mariah Carey beat her long standing tie with Elvis Presley for most number one singles. Mariah Carey, who has 18 number one singles, places the artist on track to beat The Beatles who sit with 20. According to MariahCarey.com, Carey’s highly anticipated and promoted studio album entitled E=MC2 means, “(E) Emancipation (=) of (MC) Mariah Carey () to the second power”. The album is set to be released on April 15, 2008, with promotion and control over the contents of this album can be said to be one of the most calculated and interesting release of late. Fans on the web are hailing the album to be one that will be record breaking for Carey.

The record opens with an R&B jam titled “Migrate.” The airy whistle put forth in the beginning album is one that is oddly placed, however interesting at the same time. With T-Pain as a special guest on the track, the song is gaining fan acceptance and is one that could be heard in a club venue. “Migrate” depicts the migration of Carey and her entourage during a night on the town as the lyrics state, “Once again nothin’ jumpin’ up in yo place, sick of your berry buzzin’ all in my face, way too much to tolerate, time to roll, y’all know I gots to migrate.”

“Touch My Body” could be considered to be quite the lyrical seductive tune, “Touch my body put me on the floor wrestle me around play with me some more.” The song, however, is still playful claiming, “If there’s a camera up in here I better not catch this flick on Youtube.” Ironically enough, Youtube.com, the online video media source, was venue in which fans have chosen to watch the official video for “Touch My Body”. Posted to the site on Feb. 28, the video has already received over 4,500,000 views.

Other notable tracks include “Cruise Control” featuring Reggae Recording artist Damien Marley. The summertime track will be one that listeners enjoy at full volume. Carey tries and succeeds at not only featuring a reggae artist, but also at being able to transform her singing to one the fits that genre. Incorporating a reggae accent makes her sound diverse, “I Stay in You” can be considered to be one of the more emotional love songs on the album that many fans will be able to relate to, that love of your life that you cannot let go. This ballad is one you are sure to listen to over and over, a beautiful melody with thoughtful lyrics.

“Side Effect,” featuring Young Jeezy, is said to be about Mariah Carey’s time with ex-husband music mogul Tommy Mottla, “I was a girl you was a man I was too young to understand I was naive I just believed everything that you told me, I finally built up the strength to walk away don’t regret it.” Young Jeezy brings a rock undertone to the track. Once again mixing things up on this album Carey brings many different musical styles to the table. For those looking for the classic 1992 Carey with full choir and moving messages of hope, love and spiritual references, you will find comfort in the closing ballad entitled “I Wish You Well.”

Carey did something that many questioned she was capable of; she made an album to follow-up the International acclaim of the “Emancipation of Mimi.” On the road to making music history, Carey is clearly still focused on the music she is putting out and the control and individuality in which she brings it to the table.
