The sweet tones of nineteen-year-old YouTube sensation Noah Guthrie’s voice can make a girl’s lady parts tingle. Under his innocent cardigans and flannel shirts is a sultry voice that you’d imagine belongs to that of a rock star. Guthrie stopped by the Fire Place Lounge this past Tuesday enticing Plymouth State with a variety of covers and originals. Guthrie’s performance was part of PSU’s Winter Carnival Activities, presented in part by PACE.
Guthrie, who is expected to release his first album within the year, explained his writing process by saying, “There is this heat of the moment, where you feel like I have to get this done, there’s something to it. I’ll lock myself in my room, or go outside or do whatever I have to do to finish it.” Guthrie has a few favorite songs to perform, including his love song “Adore”, where he woos the ladies with his French skills. He went on to explain that “Adore” has a lot of heavy meaning behind it, and it is one of his favorite songs to perform.
Guthrie’s most popular cover; the LMFAO hit single “I’m Sexy and I Know It,” has gotten 15.8 million views on YouTube, and was certainly a hit with the PSU crowd on Tues., Feb, 12. Noah explained that, “A lot of times [he’ll] pick songs that [he doesn’t] really like.” He also admits that “if there was one song to make [him] famous, [he] wouldn’t have guessed it would be the one that says ‘I’ve got a passion in my pants.'” Noah does have a wide range of covers, including anything from LMFAO to T-Swift to Mumford and Sons.
When asked if Noah has any future plans in terms of music, Noah said, “I just really want to do it until I’m dead. I don’t want to be a flash, I just want to play music until I just can’t anymore.” Noah has some interest in college, and is exploring a couple of online colleges based out of southern states such as South Carolina and Tennessee. “I feel like I’m missing the college experience. My girlfriend goes to college and when I visit her I just think, ‘Should I be doing this?'”
Noah’s talents don’t stop at just music. “At one point I did want to be a magician. I guess when I got to high school I realized women don’t like magicians as much as they like musicians,” said Guthrie. Never has there been a more truer statement. Although, I’m sure we’d love him just as much as a magician, maybe even more.
“I’m more comfortable on stage than I am talking one-on-one,” confessed Guthrie. It certainly didn’t seem it. Noah’s charm was enough to send ourselves and any other girl back to her room in tears, listening to “Adore” over and over and over again, clutching a teddy bear and eating chocolate bar.
