Last Friday, as the finale of PSU’s Earth Day Festival Go Green or Go Home!, students crowded into the HUB courtroom for a concert featuring How’s Your News?, Throwback, and State Radio. Organized by Common Ground, and co-sponsored by the Student Senate, PACE, and The Clock, the Earth Day concert rocked for over three hours with a range of musical flavors.Any student would have to agree, the most surprisingly enjoyable aspect of the evening would have the performance by How’s Your News?. Comprised of mentally and physically challenged adults, How’s Your News? Met at the progressive Camp Jabberwocky on Martha’s Vineyard, where Chad Urmstrom of State Radio (and previously of Dispatch) is a counselor. Long story short, they’ve made two man-on-the-street style documentaries-one focuses on their road trip across the United States, and the other is a yet to be released film where How’s Your News? Takes on the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. With the aide of Chad Urmstrom (and a few other musically inclined counselors from Camp Jaberwocky), Hows Your News? Evolved into a musical act with a potent innocence and an passionate energy. For anyone who missed the Earth Day Concert, a documentary of the entire Go Green or Go Home! Earth Day celebration is in the works and will be premiering at Plymouth State University next year. Along with footage of the concert, it features backstage interviews with Chad Urmstrom and the members of Hows Your News?, as well as a wealth of information on a number of environmental and social justice issues from the festival’s featured vendors and exhibits.
