PSU Professor named N.H. Artist Fellow

Associate Professor of English Joseph Monninger has received an Individual Artist Fellowship Award from the state of New Hampshire.

Monninger was selected from 90 other artists in the state to receive the $5,000 award. Individual fellowships are awarded annually to artists by a state panel of peers for excellence in their particular field.

Monninger has published several stories and non-fiction pieces in magazines such as Readers Digest, American Heritage and Sports Illustrated. He has written nine novels, and his tenth is soon to be released. His tenth book, “Two Ton: One Night, One Fight-Tony Galento v. Joe Louis,” is about a famous 1930’s boxing match between underdog Tony Galento and World Champion Joe Louis, and Galento’s moment of glory when he knocked the champ to the ground. Monninger has worked with the New Hampshire Writers Project for many years, and has been on the New Hampshire Humanities Council.

“I’ll be using the money toward writing,” Monninger said, “but it just feels good to be recognized.”
