End up on a shuttle and it’s driving away from campus? You’re on your way to the unofficial housing of Plymouth State University: 307 Main St., the new home to several students.According to Jeff Furlone, the Assistant Director of Residential Life, the students who are living there wanted university housing but did not want to participate in the process. “Everyone who went through room-draws was placed on campus,” he said. When space becomes available it will be offered to the students living in the cottages if they choose. Residential Life also assisted in helping secure commuter parking passes for students.”The students like the individual cabins for privacy,” said Sunny, the owner and operator of Pilgrim Inn and Cottages. He claims the inn is not full of students, yet does not entirely agree with the housing situation because it is a private business property, not a campus. The students also receive the perks of living in an inn; their rooms are cleaned twice a week by a maid service. This includes fresh sheets, clean towels and room vacuuming. The pricing works the same way as well. Those in a single cottage pay what they would for a campus single, and a double cottage goes for the same as a double room. So why did the students choose to live here?Andrew Mason, a senior said, “I like it because it’s quiet and I can get away to do homework.” Along with the cleaning and privacy, sophomore Mike Morrison said, “I like it because you have your own bathrooms.” In the end, maybe they are luckier than those students who went through room draws.
