PLYMOUTH – Plymouth State University charged over Colby-Sawyer College for a 2-0 victory at Panther Field in a non-conference match-up Tuesday evening.
The Panthers, who had scored only one goal in the past three games combined, were able to snap their two-game losing streak and improve their record to 4-3-0 overall on the season. Colby-Sawyer, who has now lost four straight games, has an overall record of 1-6-1 thus far this season.
The Panthers opened the first half eager to strike first against Colby-Sawyer. PSU answered with all the correct answers as Colby-Sawyer struggled to keep up with the Panthers. Plymouth clawed their way past the Charger defense, forcing Colby-Sawyer to kick it up a notch to keep pace with the red-hot Panthers.
After missing several goal attempts, Kelsey McBride knocked in the Panthers’ first goal of the evening after an assist from Stacy DiSabato, her first of two on the evening.
The Panthers continued to dominate the Chargers offensively and defensively, only allowing Colby-Sawyer one shot through the entire first half. The Panthers nailed 13 shots against the Chargers, keeping Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Jennifer Plouffe alert and busy. Halftime couldn’t have come soon enough for the ailing Chargers.
The second half began more optimistically for the Chargers who showed no mercy early on, threatening the Panther defense of possibly scoring their first goal of the evening. The Panthers wouldn’t give up as they put the pressure on as well. Plymouth’s defense held on as the Panthers looked to cushion their lead.
The Panthers’ wish would be granted later in the half when Brianna Coderre added insurance to the Panthers’ lead after Stacy DiSabato’s second assist of the day to make it 2-0.
The Panthers’ defense held strong, allowing the Panthers to earn their fourth shutout win of the year.
Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Jennifer Plouffe was kept busy for the night, making thirteen saves, while PSU goalie Ashley Riberdy made seven saves in her second shutout performance of the year.
Plymouth State University will begin a three-game road-trip beginning on Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m.) against LEC archrival Keene State.
