Challenge Yourself: It’s For Your Own Good!

It’s almost March which means most of us have probably already given up on our New Year’s resolutions. Let’s face it – one big goal is always hard to keep. Instead of trying to keep that one big goal for the entire year, why not try to achieve a bunch of little goals? Give yourself a week, a month or even the rest of the year to challenge yourself. How long would it take you to complete the following list?

? Do a good deed for a stranger like holding a door open a few seconds longer for a few extra people, help carry a heavy load, give up your seat in a crowded area or volunteer your time.

? Try and get off the phone for a few hours. Turn off your phone instead of putting it on vibrate. Better yet, try leaving it in your dorm or apartment while you’re in class.

? Go one day without eating junk food. For some of you this might be easy, but for others cut out sweets, sugary snacks and sodas. You might even feel healthier and decide to cut out the junk food everyday!

? Do something crafty like tie dye a T-shirt, take some photographs and frame them, learn to knit or crochet, draw or paint a picture, bedazzle your jeans or make friendship bracelets. Have fun with this stress reliever.

? Go 24 hours without using Facebook – try to really challenge yourself and pick a time when you’ll have access to Facebook. Don’t cheat and pick a day when you’ll be away from the computer.

? Cook a meal for yourself, for your roommate, your friends, or your family. You don’t need to make a five course meal: keep it simple! You can even buy a salad kit – all you have to do is throw it in a bowl.

? Face one of your fears. Go to the top of a tall building and look down, talk in public (a class presentation counts!) or let a spider crawl on you.

? Do something that reminds you of the fun days of your childhood. Make a snow fort, find a playground with swings, color, or find your favorite childhood candy and go wild.

? Make up a goal of your own! Challenge yourself to be a great part of your community or do something that will make you feel better about yourself. Then, stick to it!

Try to complete these goals by the end of the week or maybe pick one goal do accomplish each week. Whatever you choose, make sure you don’t stress yourself out trying to keep up with the goals. Challenge yourself but have fun with it.
