Stevie Starr puts the fun back in puking

On Thursday, April 20, the bare-chested, very vulgar, very Scottish, and very bizarre Stevie Starr performed in the HUB’s multipurpose room. All things considered, it was a one-man freak show. Stevie Starr is “The Regurgitator.” Starr swallows a wide variety of objects and then, well- regurgitates them. He warmed up with a light bulb. Starr sucked it right down, slumped slightly, cursed, punched his chest, squealed, and coughed up the undamaged and dry bulb. This was, quite literally, just the beginning. Starr then had an audience assistant feed him $10 in quarters, which he swallowed one at a time, letting them clink against one another in his mysterious belly. “We’re gonna play slot machine, and I’m the f***ing machine,” said Starr before regurgitating the quarters in separate quantities specified by the audience. Starr has appeared on many television shows, including “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with David Letterman,” and “The Howard Stern Show.” According to Starr, one skeptical Japanese variety show had him hooked up to an x-ray machine. The Japanese had the privilege of seeing a fish swimming around inside the Regurgitator’s stomach. “Never offer me a joint,” said Starr after bumming a cigarette from one audience member and sucking the entire thing down in one drag. He chased the smoke with some dish soap and blew smoke filled bubbles up into the air. Other items eaten and returned included goldfish, a pool ball, a miniature Rubik’s Cube (which was turned while inside the Regurgitator), and six rings belonging to audience members. Starr sprinkles his performance with crass remarks and ridiculous one-liners which usually involve crack about shoplifting or being a vacuum cleaner. Overall, the event was equally astounding, yet disturbing. The Regurgitator put on a show that will not be soon forgotten.
