The Annual Student Juried Exhibit displays a plethora of works created by all levels of art students from PSU. The exhibition had its grand opening on February 26th, and it will remain on view until March 26th in the Museum of The White Mountains.
Each piece of work was carefully selected by the jurors Kathryn Field and Katrina Kelley. Field graduated from PSU with a degree in Fine Arts and Art History, and now has her own gallery in Manchester, NH called Kelley Stelling Contemporary. Kelley completed her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin and she currently has a studio located in Sandwich, NH.
Both Field and Kelley carefully selected each piece to not only display the student’s best work but also to create a cohesive group of works in the gallery space. The broad range of mediums displayed in this exhibit symbolizes the diverse student bodies who created them. Mediums on display consist of photography, printmaking, oil and acrylic painting, metalwork, ceramics, drawing, and mixed media.
Students, faculty, staff, and members of the community came to support the artists on their opening night. This juried show is such an important event for student artists to gain experience in the gallery space, from the pristine psychical craft of their presentation to conversing with the public personally about their work. Senior Christine Lambert ’19 says that having her work displayed in this exhibit “reaffirms why I like doing what I do.”
The vibrancy in the gallery space is a result of the hard work of the artists, the jurors, and the staff at the Museum of The White Mountains. The works give the public a glimpse into the various points of view of each artist, bringing together the best of the PSU art community’s works into one space. As art department faculty member Jay Moskowitz says, the Annual Student Juried Exhibit “is always a great show, it’s a celebration.”
