The Clock is changing its production schedule from printing weekly to printing biweekly.
The decision came in order to focus efforts on theclockonline.com, The Clock’s premier webpage, as well as The Clock Facebook page and other forms of social media.
The Clock will publish live Plymouth athletic scores, breaking news, the newest photos, and exciting events around campus on a daily basis.
The decision for the change has been debated about for many years in The Clock office. But equipped with new digital gear and a dedication to an eco-friendly campus, The Clock staff is excited and determined to use their tools to gain access to a new online market of news readers.
Rachael Ferranti, The Clock’s Editor-in-Chief, is looking forward to see what the change will bring about for the organization. “We have been trying to emerge as a mixed media organization for the past few years, and it has been a struggle to make our online presence known.” Ferranti continues, “Since we’ve had the website, for about five years, we’ve had this sort of schedule that we put articles online in large masses the day before they come out in the paper.”
As we move into an age of digital reporting The Clock must keep up with the times and train our journalist to be convergence reporters; focusing our efforts on instant media, audio recordings, videography, and live digital feeds. All these changes are in order to keep our readers informed in the digital age. “Sadly, the paper is a dying medium.. not dead yet, but it is quickly being replaced and revived by online news sites.” Ferranti says.
The move will also give the roughly 30 members, including 15 staff members, of The Clock the ability to give you the best, most in-depth, paper articles we can produce, while at the same time delivering stories hours after they happen, keeping the community involved in anything and everything going on around campus.
In the past, The Clock hasn’t been utilizing the internet base as it should have: “I think that the students and the PSU community, when they think of The Clock, think of the actual newspaper, and while I am really proud of the physical paper that we put out, I want people to think of theclockonline.com when they look for their campus news source,” Ferranti says. “From here on out, the paper that prints every two weeks will hold the best and most pertinent articles and stories that come out of this office.”
Throughout the year, be on theclockonline.com for the newest and most up-to-date news in Plymouth.
The Clock looks forward to serving the students and community of Plymouth in our new digital world, while still bringing you the same great newspaper on a biweekly schedule.
