Gorham, Maine – Off to an impressive start so far in their 2012 season, the Plymouth State field hockey team traveled this past Tuesday over the border to take on the team from the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference matchup.
USM got on the board early when senior Rachel Trafton collect the rebound of her own shot and put it into the back of the net to put PSU down early at 1-0. USM was able to score two more goals before then end of the half to make it 3-0. USM was able to push their advantage even further only a few mintues into the second half to put the score at 4-0.
Plymouth State did not go down without a fight, however. In the 57th minute sophomore Kristen Morris (Stoughton, Mass.) was able to score unassisted to finally put Plymouth State on the board and make the score 4-1. Morris scored again for the Panthers a few minutes later off an assist from freshman Leah Kenison-Marvin (Center Tuftonboro, N.H) to end the game with a final score of 4-2.
