Dear fellow students, Well, maybe I am not a student today at PSU, but surely I am a “student” of PSU having served for the last 4 years on the PSU President’s Council. President Wharton appointed us in 2001 and since then we have completed a major fundraising campaign for the University to outfit Boyd Hall, increase endowments, support campus beautification such as the Robert Frost statue and for many other purposes. We have raised almost $8,000,000 for Plymouth in the process. I am writing to you now to ask for your help. President Wharton is leaving us at the end of this school year. By our estimation, he has been instrumental in the dramatic improvements in all aspects of the Plymouth experience- to where the “product” coming out of Plymouth today is exceptional. The centers of excellence that exist on your campus are very special. Last September the PSU President’s Council approved the creation of an endowment in honor of President Wharton. The endowment would require funds of $100,000 and would be for the purpose of supporting the College of University Studies. This program is a tremendous resource for your fellow students in navigating their way toward the completion of a degree from PSU. Here’s where you come in—all 4,000 of you! If you could each donate $25 we more than achieve our goal. If some of you can afford more than that we have even more funds each year for the College of University Studies. So far we have received pledges, primarily from alumni, of approximately $30,000. Please help us in completing the funding of this endowment to show your support for this program, your University, and for the contributions which President Wharton has made to your educational experience. Please contact the Advancement Office in Russell House with whatever support you can provide. We thank you in advance for your contributions, and you can count on those of us on the President’s Council to continue to do our part to support the future growth of our University. Sincerely, Wally StevensClass of 1962PTC
