Plymouth, N.H. – Still trying wrap up a berth into the Little East Conference championship tournament, the Plymouth State men’s soccer team hosted Clark University in a non-conference matchup at Panther Field this past Wednesday (10/24).
The Cougars got on the board early in the first when CU freshman Kyle Russo (Westford, Mass.) was able to secure a ricochet in front of the Plymouth State net, and fire it into the back of the net to put Clark up 1-0. Wasting little time, CU scored again only a few minutes later. CU senior Gialuca Ranallo (Scarsdale, N.Y.) was able to fire a shot from about 20 yards out that found the top right corner to put CU up 2-0 going into the intermission.
Plymouth State was able to finally get on the board a few minutes after the start of the second half. Senior Parker Spear (Sodus Point, N.Y.) was able to send a cross from the left side of the field, which freshman Ted Karlstrand (Halmstad, Sweden) was able to get by the goalkeeper to make it make it 2-1.
Any hope of a comeback by PSU was dashed soon, however. CU freshman Nicholas Mallozzi (Stamford, Conn.) made a run down the field and get one past against reserve Sam Whipple (Kingston, N.H.) for a final score of 3-1.
Plymouth State will wrap up their season this Saturday in match with post-season implications as they host the University of Massachusetts. For PSU to make it to the playoffs they must either tie or win against the Beacons.
