Plymouth, N.H.— Coming off their first win of the season on Wednesday against Castleton State College, PSU Men’s Soccer failed to continue their success on Saturday, September 24th against Eastern Connecticut State University at Panther Field. The Warriors defeated Plymouth State, 3-0.
Although earning the shots advantage for the game, 12-10, the home team suffered the loss from their own mistakes and an aggressive Eastern Connecticut team. Despite some excellent saves, junior Goalkeeper Bjorn Ohlsson (Halmstad NA, Sweden) took the loss for PSU, while senior Carl Appel earned the victory for the visitors, playing 75 scoreless minutes of the contest with five saves.
PSU’s defense remained strong throughout the first half, not letting up a goal until the 21st minute, as Eastern Conn. sophomore Christopher Giustina scored on a header following a corner kick. Nearly every attempt at a PSU attack was halted, leading to even more pressure on the defensive side of things for the home team, although the Panthers held the Warriors for the remainder of the first half.
Plymouth State’s defense paid for a huge mistake just fifteen minutes into the second half with a Warrior own goal, giving the 2-0 advantage to the visiting team. Another Eastern Connecticut header, this time by freshmen Nicholas Demo, concluded the Warrior’s scoring with 21 minutes left in the game.
With the loss, Plymouth State falls to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in LEC conference. The Warriors become 5-2-1 overall (2-0 in LEC). The Panthers look for another chance at victory tomorrow, as they travel to Keene State and continue their season in the Little East Conference match-up.
