Beacons Befeat Women’s Basketball Despite Senior Day

It was Senior Day at the Foley Gymnasium, as the Plymouth State Women’s Basketball team lost a hard fought game to UMass Boston, 64-54.

The Panthers got off to a slow start as UMass Boston rattled off 13-0 run early in the first half that set Plymouth back by a score of 19-4. At the end of the first half, freshman DeAsia Lawrence (Middletown, CT) was Plymouth’s leading scorer with eight points. UMass Boston took a commanding 36-14 lead into the locker room at the half.

The second half opened up like the first half ended as UMass Boston started the scoring with an early lay-up, but Plymouth started to find their groove offensively, led by senior captain Krystin Corliss (Loudon, N.H.). The Panthers outscored UMass Boston 40-28, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

Plymouth’s leading scorers for the game included Krystin Corliss who had nineteen points (all in the second half), which included five three-pointers, five rebounds and three assists. DeAsia Lawrence also added fifteen points of her own, hitting three three-pointers and two assists. Junior Tiffany Lewis (Hillsboro, N.H.) also had a big game on the boards pulling down four rebounds and helping out on the defensive side of the ball with three steals and a block.

The Lady Panthers will travel to take on in-state rival Keene State, Tuesday February 18th at 5:30 pm.
