Women’s Basketball Loses a Tough one to USM

The Plymouth Lady Panther’s basketball team played a well-contested game against Southern Maine despite recording the loss, 54-48.

After getting off to a slow start, down 8-4, the Panthers rallied back to take a 20-12 lead from a 16-4 run late in the first half. Plymouth went into the locker room with a 23-21 lead.

The Panthers continued strong play as senior Krystin Corliss (Loudon, N.H.) hit a three-pointer to open the second half. Following a bucket by Plymouth’s Bry Bennett (Lancaster, N.H.), Southern Maine went on a tear, scoring ten unanswered points, to take a 37-32 lead. The Lady Panthers weathered the storm to remain within four after a big three-pointer by freshman DeAsia Lawrence (Middletown, CT) to make the score 41-37, with six minutes to go in the game. After another run by Southern Maine, the Panthers found themselves down by five points in the final minute, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Leading the way for the Panthers was DeAsia Lawrence shooting 4-5 from behind the arc for 12 points. Taylor Perry (Simsbury, CT) came off the bench adding eleven points and Bry Bennett would add ten of her own and also added five rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.

The Panthers return to the court on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for their Senior Day game at the Foley Gymnasium against the University of Massachusetts Boston.
