Poll Vans Get Shut Down, Temporarily

At 1:30, University Police shut down a shuttle operation, sponsored by Students for Obama, that was taking Plymouth students to and from the polls.

Office Jennifer Frank told the group of Obama volunteers that there were, “a couple of complaints down at Physical Plant,” citing that many flyers were loose throughout campus.

According to police, other complaints came in from students trying to use the kiosk lot, as well as complaints that Students for Obama did not register through the University.

Frank also cited the unauthorized usage of a power source from Center Lodge.

As the Obama team scrambled to pack up and figure out their next move, vans were sent to Holderness and instructed to wait at a gas station.

As the operation was being shut down many students were returning from the polls.

“Nothing that they are doing is wrong, they just didn’t follow the process,” Frank said.

“We wouldn’t have gone if it weren’t for the vans,” Ryan Hamilton, a sophomore, stated. “Those vans got us to vote. I have my car, but I don’t know, the van was just convenient.”

Austin Foskitt, a junior and first time voter who used the van service said, “It felt good to put my word in-make a change, ya know?”

The Plymouth Student Senate  still ran a one-van service from the bus stop across from Prospect Dining Hall till the polls close.

Hours later, the Obama vans began picking up students from the Senate van’s spot, trying to get as many students to the polls before they close.
