The final weeks of school are here. While seniors gnaw at their fingernails in the anticipation of graduation, others shudder at the thought of life after PSU. When this year is over, students will walk away from these old grounds each with their own set of unique memories.
Some may boast of how PSU was voted the number nine party school. However, this seems like a very bland way to remember the past school year. This was the first year of college for some and the last year for others. How else will students reminisce about the 2010 school year with friends in the future?
When my sister moved from her first home, she inscribed her initials and those of her family in a hard to find spot. Although landlords on campus would probably not be thrilled to see The Clock promoting vandalism, there is another alternative. Why not carve into a table you and your friends have bought, or get a cheap one just for the occasion? It will be cherished year after year and can even be passed on to underclassmen friends to carry on the legacy.
How about taking an unusual tour of the PSU area? Many students are night owls who enjoy the moonlit hours. Just look at any of the lights on campus late at night. Stay up late one night and take a cruise on your long board or take a walk and see the campus at night, when the only noise is the sound of chirping birds. A sense of serenity will be roaming the pathways with no else around. Rest against a tree in front of Mary Lyon and soak it all in. Bring a camera and take some pictures as well. When the stars appear, the campus seems to be a different universe compared to the daylight one where sun seeking crowds gather in front of the HUB or boarders dart between walking to class, but keep safe!
Come up with different ways to remembering your college experience. Most graduates will remember the parties and good times they had, but few will get to say they climbed a tree in the late evening hours or carved their initials into an old table. Students spend approximately four years in Plymouth, so don’t let pictures and the diploma be the only thing left from years at Plymouth State University.
This is the place where many transformed from oblivious high school students to adults, hoping to be ready for whatever curveballs the real world has. Peers may part ways or lose touch with one another, but you will always hold special college memories close to heart.
