As I stand here at the end of my junior year, I want to take the time to thank the Clock Staff members who are graduating next week. All of them put a lot of time and effort into making this paper the best it could possibly be. I have shared a lot of good times with all of them over the years.
Arlin Goss and Bailey Whitehill make the paper interesting. As our Photo Editors they always come up with creative, innovative and above all interesting photos to accompany articles. Both would always be ready to tackle any assignment with a camera in hand. I really don’t know what I am going to do without these two. Both Arlin and Bailey have an amazing talent. If it weren’t for them the paper would consist of text and ads. These two are great, and I don’t think I have given them enough recognition for their hard work over the years.
Molly Cummings came into the office one night after seeing an interesting advertisement for The Clock. Craig Brown, our former Content Manager was messing around with photo shopped a picture of the Misfits with the line “Write for The Clock” as a tagline. Molly decided to take that advice. She has been on staff ever since. In her year and a half on staff she has managed to cover many on campus shows and recruit new writers. I always look at her column as a no-nonsense approach to young adulthood, but she still manages to keep the column engaging.
Allison Binder and I started working for The Clock at the same time. I was a first year trying new things. She was a transfer student doing the same. We were both copy editors, then writers. She became Features Editor when Lindsay Scalera graduated in December of 2007. Allison is usually quiet in the office, but she has some interesting stories. Ask her about her time in New Orleans, England or what she wants to do after college. Chances are you’ll be enthralled. She has what I consider to be one of the more difficult jobs at The Clock. She is in charge of checking every article for clarity, readability, and errors. After reading every article she hands it back with a smile, and a kind comment.
Finally, we have Mike Kashtan. Mike has been at The Clock since his sophomore year. We both ran for Editor in Chief for the 2009-2010 school year.. He obviously won. I will say I am glad he won. I learned a lot from working alongside Mike this past year. We had a lot of great times, and we produced a lot of great issues. Mike’s guidance helped me. I am confident I will be a great Editor-in-Chief because of the advice he has bestowed me. Mike loves what he does, and he is an amazing journalist. I don’t even follow sports but I always read his articles.
So good luck future grads, you have proved yourself here in The Clock office and in the classroom. I’m going to miss all of our jokes and conversations. But time marches on. Thank you Arlin, Bailey, Molly, Allison and Mike and good luck (not that you’ll need it).
