Guide to Spring Fling 2004

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – “We gonna make you move, we gonna make it hot.” The Black Eyed Peas are on their way to Plymouth State University for their concert Saturday night, the culmination of Spring Fling 2004.Bracelets for students are $5 with current PSU ID and $20 for guests. Each student is allowed three guest bracelets and they must be purchased in advance, as no guest bracelets will be given at the gates. Students can purchase their bracelets at the HUB Pawsway all this week from 10 am to 2 pm.Spring Fling kicks off on Thursday night with Freestyle Boston: Hip Hop and Reggae Showcase, a concert displaying the talents of O.V.M., Diamond Mindz, Rhymfest, Chakra Con, Megatron, and the Suffolk Step Squad. O.V.M. was nominated as Best New Hip Hop Act for 2002 at the Boston Music Awards, and has also opened for Method Man, Talib Kweli, Redman, and Funk Master Flex, among others. Friday night’s festivities commence with the American Marketing Association’s First Annual Dating Game at 5 pm on the Alumni Green.Students can scope out the carnival action taking place Friday night at the HUB, where hamburgers, hotdogs, and fried dough will be served, as well as airbrushed tattoos and a mechanical bull. At 6, students can travel down to the recreation field and watch women’s rugby played under the lights. Friday night turns local with the annual Battle of the Bands at 6 pm on the Alumni Green. The winner opens the next night’s concert. Solo musician Pete Francis, a former member of Dispatch, will give a concert following the Battle of the Bands.Saturday’s celebrations start early with Recreation Program’s softball tournament at the fields by the P.E. Center. At 7:30 pm, the party starts at the Recreation Fields when the beer tent opens to all students and guests who are 21. There will also be more carnival food and activities, plus games with Spring Fling T-shirt prizes. And then on Saturday at 7:30 pm, Hip Hop artists the Black Eyed Peas will headline a concert at the Recreation Fields. Opening for them will be the Battle of the Bands winner and Zox, voted the Best Band of 2003 by campusawards.com. Zox has also been played on MTV’s Real World and Road Rules.The Black Eyed Peas released the first single from their album “Elephunk”, “Where is the Love”, successfully, featuring Justin Timberlake. Currently, their music video for “Hey Mama” plays on MTV.There will be no backpacks, purses, water bottles, cameras, or recording devices allowed at the Saturday night concert.
