Women’s Tennis Ends Regular Season With A Win

Boston, Mass. – The Plymouth State women’s tennis wrapped up their regular season on the road this past Saturday afternoon, as they traveled to take on the team from the University of Massachusetts – Boston in a Little East Conference matchup.

Senior Sara Burke (Barrington, R.I.) and junior Molly Heartfeld (Dorset, Vt.) were able to wrap up their impressive seasons with victories in both doubles and singles action. Burke won her No. 1 singles match by 6-3, -6-3 and Heartfeld was able to win her No.2 singles match 6-0,6-1. Both ladies teamed up later to win their No.1 doubles match at 9-6.

With her win on Saturday Sara Burke now has 30 career single victories, all-coming at the No.1 position. She is the sixth person in school history to reach this milestone. The Clock would just like to congratulate her on a fantastic athletic career here at PSU!

Plymouth State freshman Nitsa Ioannides (El Cajon, Calif.) and Andra Dion (Holderness, N.H.) also had strong showings Saturday, as they each picked up a pair of wins. They teamed up for a win at No.2 doubles wth a score of 8-5, followed by victories at No. 3 and No.4 singles. Junior Chelsea Thibeault (Manchester,N.H.) was also a winner in her No.6 singles match at 6-3,6-4. Thibeault later teamed with fellow junior Jane Duggan (Saunderstown, R.I.) as they won their No.3 doubles with a score of 8-4.

Plymouth State was able to finish the season with a 7-6 overall record and a 5-3 record n conference play. Plymouth State will next be in action when they take on Rhode Island College this coming Tuesday in the opening round of the LEC tournament at the PE Center Courts. Match time is 3:00 p.m.
