In Dallas Texas, The United States Department of Agriculture is fighting to close down Supreme Beef Processors, a meat supplier for Wal-Mart. Over an eight month period of testing, 20% of the products were found to contain salmonella. In the past, E. Coli has also been detected in Supreme Beef products. Supreme Beef Processors has obtained a court order allowing the sales to continue temporarily. Food safety experts argue that if this order is not revoked and the issue is not taken care of, the US Department of Agriculture may be allowed to revert to century old methods of testing meat- by sight and smell. No one from Wal-Mart was available to comment on how much meat they have purchased from this company. Salmonella is a bacterium that causes one million cases of food poisoning and is responsible for 556 deaths each year in the United States. There is no website currently available for Supreme Beef Producers, Inc. Information from the Wal-Mart Watchers is located at www.walmartwatch.com
