The most endearing privilege that the Plymouth State higher ups bestow upon us, is the one-day vacation, lovingly called Ski day. The students who wish to spend their time on the slopes can get their gear all set up and head out, while the students who are more inclined to stay on campus (whether it be because they do not know how to ski or because they have no interest in it) can have the day off for what they decide is their best interest. However, the main problem with this system is that, after the homework is done, what is a student to do? Although, the choices are indeed varied, we have decided to give to you several options for you and your friends to do on Ski day.
Hit the Slopes Anyway– This one mainly deals with the individuals who are unfamiliar with the sport, and are overall interested, but have no skis at the present time, and may have a few friends, willing to teach this individual. Do not be discouraged, it really only takes sheer determination in order to ski (or snowboard) with serious fervor and rental equipment should be available at the slopes, along with friendly lessons, for the individual or individuals who just want to learn, but have no clue how to progress.
Hit the Snow– To you people who are willing to spend some time in the vast blank that is the winter months, but wish not to conform to the day’s name, fear not. Snow shoeing, sledding, tubing, and various other activities are there to sway you, and even if you don’t wish to strap on silly shoes to go for a walk or be sent to a wall of snow at ludicrous speeds. Simply, take a walk around campus, build a gigantic snowman, or make snow angels. Find that inner child and simply have fun in the snow.
I Have To Catch Up On My Shows– If you are perfectly alright with staying indoors on Ski day (which would probably be most of us), there is always the marathon. Get some friends together and just watch something of worth, or something worthless and make fun of it. Whether it be a television show or a bunch of movies, countless warm hours await you.
Trade the Silver Hills for a Silver Screen– If staying in is not your thing, perhaps a trip to the movie theater is far better suited for you. However, watch out for the stinkers (Cough* I, Frankenstein, *Cough).
Skip Ahead- There is the possibility that you could get ahead in your homework…but who would want to do that?
What’s Mario Been Up To?- With the release of many new, interesting and diverse games (along with myriads of gems from the past). Options are not sparse for a whole day video game binge. Just pick the game of your choice and let her go. Have some more fun by getting a multiplayer game going with friends. I’m sure they aren’t doing anything that important…
A Simple Talk– In this country, hell, in this world, people seem to rush from one place to another, and while this is ok (progress is progress after all), it may be a breath of fresh air for a moment of solitude. It doesn’t even need to be that long, just take a moment, turn off the cell phones and just enjoy each other’s company. Just an hour or two at the pool table or if you are of age, over a drink (drinking responsibly of course), or even just in a common area. It will be fun, I promise you (and don’t worry, you’re cell phones will not fade into the ether from lack of use).
No matter what you decide to do, one of these activities, a mixture of these activities, or none at all, remember to be safe out there, whether you’re on the slopes or not. Enjoy the day off, and have fun with whatever you decide to do. Just be respectful to the people that surround you, for they too want to have a good day. Have a happy Ski Day.
