“We the People” Banner Project

Friends of the Arts Regional Arts Council and Plymouth Elementary School have teamed up in a pARTners program. The pARTners program is part of Friends of the Arts initiative to develop in-depth community arts projects that are centered on one school. Friends of the Arts work with the school in developing the project to meet the school’s goals, needs and capabilities to connect school activities to the immediate community. The Plymouth Elementary pARTners program is a community arts project that will combine school activities with a public art exhibit, involving a quality visual art experience for students and connecting to the Plymouth Elementary School theme: “wellness”.

For the past few weeks, students at Plymouth Elementary School have been designing banners, thinking about ways that all kinds of arts can contribute to wellness in our Plymouth community. During the week of October 5-7, 2004, students worked with visiting artist, Jo Ann Moran, to paint the chosen final designs on the banners. In the after-school hours, Ms. Moran worked with a group of students at the Pemi Youth Center, creating several banners as part of Friends of the Arts Beyond the Bell program. This project is part of a nationally traveling banner exhibit developed by Ms. Moran. This program is sponsored in part by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, the Firetower Children’s Fund of the Northern New Hampshire Foundation, the Plymouth Rotary, the Plymouth Main St. and Communities for Alcohol and Drug-Free Youth. Special thanks go to the Sculptured Rocks Farm Inn in Groton for their lodging donation to this very important project! Be on the lookout for these spectacular banners!
