Wally-World Watch

According to CNN.com, around 300 protestors gathered last Sunday in TEOTIHUACAN, Mexico to rally against the recent opening of a new Wal-Mart that is close to an ancient Mayan ruin site. The Teotihuacan ruins are over 2,000 years old, and much excavation is currently underway. From the top of the pyramids, you can see the Wal-Mart site, along with other commercial developments. Many local residents feel that the building of big box-type stores is forcing Mexico to lose its culture. Archeologists say that only minor cultural remains have been found at the site thus far, but some feel that the development is too close to such a historic area. Is it possible that answers to the mysterious Mayan culture lie under Wal-Marts foundation? This leads to questions about development across the world; what other historical answers could be permanently loss due to human development?
