Memorial Held for Library Director Todd Trevorrow Tomorrow

PLYMOUTH-Friends and colleagues who gathered on December 2 for the memorial service of Lamson Library Director, Todd Trevorrow said he was a strong leader and advocate for the library as well as a gentleman.

Trevorrow, 54, of Concord died on the evening of November 3 when the car he was driving drifted off Interstate 93 south and collided with a tree. Police speculate the accident was the result of a medical condition.

Trevorrow worked as Lamson Library Director since 1993. Prior to his work at Plymouth State University, he was Library Director at Olivet College, and also served as Library Director at Westbrook College in Portland, Maine.

In the late 1990’s, Trevorrow planned and executed the “Herculean” task of renovating and rebuilding of Lamson Library. In his remarks at the memorial, interim library director Gary McCool recalled Trevorrow saying, “I didn’t come all the way out here from Michigan to build an ugly building.”

McCool went on to say that Trevorrow had accomplished his goal of creating a beautiful library, one in which the staff of the library, as well as the entire campus could be proud.

Trevorrow was considered an expert in library automation, and was sought out by many committees and professional councils for his effective leadership style. He served on the New Hampshire State Library Advisory Council and was Chair of the New Hampshire College and University Council’s Libraries Committee.

In a press release, NHCUC Operations Director, Marilyn Frederick noted, “these facts tell nothing about the easy style of leadership Todd embodied, or the genuine caring, patience, goodwill and sense of well-being he spread among us.”

Trevorrow was well liked by Lamson Library staff, as well as the University community. He was considered a generous person and a strong advocate for the library, who led by example. Trevorrow was encouraging of his staff, and according to McCool, “All of us at Lamson Library who worked under Todd’s leadership consider ourselves to have been so fortunate.”

Michael York, a librarian at the New Hampshire State Library, also spoke at the memorial. York remarked, “[Todd] had a refinement and style that seemed to make people comfortable.”

“We can think of Todd as a person who came to work every day to enrich the learning experiences of every person in this institution,” said PSU President Donald Wharton. “He will be sorely missed.”

Members of Tovorrow’s family established the Todd Trevorrow Fund this month, to raise money for graduate student library interns. Also, there are plans to rename the Lamson Library Tower room this spring in Trevorrow’s honor. “We need to keep him in our library,” said President Wharton.
