Waterville Valley, N.H. – The Plymouth State University lady ice Panthers had a tough loss against the big guns of Norwich, falling 12-2 at the Waterville Valley Ice Arena. The game brought the Cadets to a record of 5-4, while Plymouth builds on its 1-2 record.Plymouth State coach Mark Wojcinski had to commend his girls for not backing down against an intimidating pair of players that seemed to be playing on another level. The players that he is referring to on the Norwich team are seniors Holly Manning and Sarah Teed; both players playing on top of their game but leaving the rest to scramble in the wake. Manning was awarded the ECAC Player of the Year and Second Team All-American, among many other league records. Plymouth captain Laura Scala joked lightly that “she was everywhere you wanted to be” while coach Wojcinski was optimisticly certain that they may have had the best player on the ice, but Plymouth did not have the worst and that the whole gamut of their team seemed to be confusing to Wojcinski. “Hopefully our second and third periods were more reflective of the match up between us (Plymouth) and them [Norwich],” explained Wojcinski reminding-that Manning and Teed were pulled from the game at that point, “because we have to face them again come January.” The lady Panthers are looking for the “silver lining” in the game. The fact that they scored two goals, sophomore goal keeper Danielle Lewis making 17 saves, and the possibility of becoming a varsity level sport here at Plymouth State are all reasons to celabrate sure to see determination against Bates College in the last game before the winter break. The sport picks back up again in January.
