This past Tuesday, October 26, Biederman’s deli held the third open mic of the year with guest artist Bob Duffy. Paris Landry introduced him by reading the review on the back of his first book, Ordinary Lies.Duffy lives and works in Franklin NH where he has raised his four children: Joslin, Rebecca, Cathleen, and Micheal, with their mother Patricia. When he is not writing he runs his own plumbing business. Duffy wore a blue short sleeve tee-shirt and blue jeans. He stood with his arms folded behind his back and swayed as he read poems he had memorized. His works expressed ideas of love, family, and politics. The first poem he read was written for one of his daughters entitled “Before the Dance.” After the reading Duffy sat and observed the Biedermans crowd. His advice to young writers was “Just keep doing it. I do it because the way it makes me feel. To me poetry is a lot like an orgasm. Everyone’s may be a little different than others, but to me it’s good.”Biedermans was festively decorated for Halloween with cobwebs hanging from the walls and blinking skeleton lights. Poets and Writers handed out vampire teeth as a prize to all who read.Fifty people gathered to read and listen, a small number for Open Mic, due to the third game of the World Series. Centripetal announced they desperately need people, and to please submit soon. The next open Mic will be held Novermber 16.
