Afew weeks ago Chef Steve Passchyn came from Belgium for two days to make some authentic Belgian dishes for PSU students and faculty. He was part of a Global Chef Program Sodexo runs that allows chefs from all over the world to visit other countries and share their culture.

Passchyn has been working for Sodexo Belgium for around 19 years and has been working as a chef for about thirty years. He says that he developed his passion for cooking by helping family prepare meals when he was younger. It did not take long for him to realize that cooking was his passion. At the age of fourteen he began studying at a technical high school where he graduated four years later. After graduating he worked at a hotel for some time and eventually ended up at at a global company called Sodexo.

This program is something the school has to apply for every year and it can be difficult for schools to get accepted since there are so many of them. In the past PSU has had chefs visit from France, Poland, Russia, Brazil, and Portugal.

Sandy Marrotte is the general manager for all of Sodexo’s operations at PSU and he hopes that the school will have the opportunity for another chef to visit in the Spring.

This was Steve Passchyn’s first time in the U.S. Once he was done visiting our school he planned on going to two more schools in Canada and after that he was heading back to Belgium. Overall, this program is a great way for students to learn about other cultures around the world through food that these chefs bring every year.
