Boston, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women’s hockey team clinched a trip to the ECAC East championship tournament after a dramatic OT win, the first ever in the history of the program.
Plymouth State got on the board halfway through the first period when junior Allison Collins (Murrietta, Calif.) off the assist from teammates Kelsey Cosby (Walpole, Mass.), and Meghan Cassidy (Somerville, N.J.)
UMass answered back a few minutes later after UMass junior Emily Howard scored the unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Both teams played to stalemate through the remainder of regulation, setting up the dramatic OT victory.
Junior Meghan Cassidy (Somerville, N.J.) clinched the victory for Plymouth State after only a minute into the OT period.
As a result of the win, the No. 8 seeded Panthers will travel to take on No. 1 seeded Norwich University in the opening round of ECAC East tournament.
