Dear Editor:
Our billions-of-U.S.-dollars aid packet “is on the table” for a second Turkish Parliamentary vote determining if Turkey will or won’t aid Bush in war on Iraq. Sounds exactly like bribe money. What, is it not precisely bribe money because it’s a loan? This is blatantly dishonest.
This U.S. attempt to buy the vote risks subverting Turkey’s democracy! Hopefully, Turkish Parliamentarians will continue to recognize their people’s will.
What was put “on the table” to sway the U.S. Supreme Court justices who decided the outcome of the 2000 election? Is dishonesty a regular means-to-the-end for George W. Bush and cohorts? The Roman military word is apt for this power-wielding group acting without regard for democratic values, while taskes with upholding democracy. Their actions from the first now, with this coarse approach to influencing the Turkish Parliament’s vote, deserve closest scrutiny.
