Who Doesn’t Love A Hummer?

The PSC American Marketing Association (AMA) has been an organization since way before Taco Bell ever inhabited the HUB. The AMA, after trying ever so diligently to raffle off such items as gift certificates for downtown businesses and a DVD player have returned to the drawing board and come back with something a little more exciting. Rather than peddling something generic that just about every college kid has, or something that just isn’t that exciting, the AMA has decided to play off our love of excessiveness with everyone’s favorite terrorism supporting vehicle, the Hummer.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Margaret Heflin, the president of the AMA, on a recent dreary afternoon and I asked her what the AMA’s most profitable fundraiser thus far has been. She said that they had sold t-shirts after the 9/11 attack and that had been their most profitable endeavor. Just goes to show you that marketing alongside timing is absolutely everything. Curious to find out what such profits go towards, I inquired on that very topic. Margaret was happy to discuss and went into the details of a conference she had attended her sophomore year thanks to some help from the AMA’s funds.

The conference, held in New Orleans, is one of national prospective. Schools from all over the country come to learn about marketing techniques and a thing or two about boogying down. Key note speakers come from major corporations and speak about the inside of the marketing world. There are also seminars held to help with different aspects of marketing, such as planning a volunteer event. Margaret definitely made it obvious that the conference had been a good experience for her and she also brought up all of the great culture she got to take in while she was at it.

A dinner for two at The Common Man complete with a Hummer driving escort is the full prize for the winner of this raffle, aptly titled “Dinner for 2 in the H2”, and unless you’re flashing dead presidents like they’re going out of style I doubt you’ve ever been on a date in a Hummer. Thanks need to be given to Jennifer Abbott for talking her fiance into donating his Hummer for this cause. Now you know where the raised funds are going and the prize is certainly saucy, you should go throw down for your chance to win.

The AMA will be selling tickets for $2 each at tables in the HUB April 28 – May 2.
